Dr Arribas leads the Informatics Lab at the Met Office – a contemporary example of how the Met Office adapts using a multi-disciplinary team with backgrounds in mathematics, engineering, technology, as well as the creative industries.

Dr Arribas completed a PhD in Physics (climate change) at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and is the author of over 60 peer-reviewed papers. His areas of expertise includes Science and Technology Innovation; Decision-making and risk-management; and near-term climate prediction and Ensemble Prediction Systems. Highly recognised within the industry, Dr Arribas is the three times winner of the Met Office Scientific and Technical Excellence Awards as well as an Associate Editor for the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society (2011-2015). His skills also extend to lecturing having spent 10 years working for the World Meteorological Organisation in the areas of Probabilistic Forecasting and Seasonal Prediction.
